Jez Corden from the Xbox Two podcast said that Xbox is making a new Xbox handheld device.
Corden mentioned on the podcast, “I know they have new handheld prototypes.” He later explained that these prototypes are new versions and not the older ones people often talk about. The podcast noted that having prototypes doesn’t guarantee new products will be released, but it’s not surprising that Xbox is exploring a handheld device.
Later, Corden clarified,
“Not a cloud handheld, but a fully native Xbox handheld.”
The Nintendo Switch has sold more than 100 million units since its launch. With devices like the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and even the PlayStation Portal entering the market recently, it’s logical for company to enter the handheld market. Some might argue that exploring the handheld market is one of the few ways for hardware growth since console sales have plateaued.
There is no clear information about when company might announce a new Xbox handheld. However, rumors have suggested that the next generation of company consoles could include a handheld that can be docked, similar to the Nintendo Switch. Earlier this year, Phil Spencer hinted that Xbox’s next-generation console will be both unique and powerful.
During the Official Xbox Podcast, Sarah Bond, the newly-appointed company President, discussed what’s next for Xbox. She mentioned, “We have more to reveal. Exciting hardware is coming this holiday season. We’re also committed to the next-generation roadmap.
Our main focus is delivering the biggest technological advancement ever seen in a hardware generation. This will enhance the gaming experience for players and creators, aligning with their creative visions.”
