Samsung Introduced the Generative AI Model for its Devices

On Wednesday, Samsung Electronics unveiled a new artificial intelligence model. They suggested that this software will be on their devices soon.

Many companies, like Microsoft-backed OpenAI and ChatGPT, have made generative AI popular. Last year, ChatGPT was launched and this started a competition among big tech companies. Generative AI relies on large language models, which are trained with lots of data.

Samsung introduced a technology called Samsung Gauss. This technology is made for AI applications on devices. They named their AI model after Carl Friedrich Gauss, a famous mathematician known for normal distribution theory, which is crucial for machine learning and AI.

The AI system has several features. The first one is Samsung’s Gauss Language, a generative language model that can assist in writing emails and translating content. It can also make device control smarter when integrated into products, improving the consumer experience.

The second feature enables in-house software developers to create code rapidly. The third feature, called Samsung Gauss Image, can make or change images.

Samsung mentioned in a press release on Wednesday that they currently use its generative AI model for employee productivity. However, they plan to extend its use to various Samsung product applications to offer a fresh user experience soon.

Samsung might become one of the first phone companies in the world to add generative AI to its devices. Daniel Araujo, who is the Vice President of Samsung’s mobile business, mentioned during the company’s earnings call last month that generative AI technology will probably be available to customers next year.

Apple, Samsung’s main competitor in the smartphone industry, has not yet revealed its own generative AI product. Tim Cook, the CEO of the company, mentioned in the Apple earnings call last month that they have ongoing efforts in generative AI, but he didn’t provide further information.
