Rumored Specifications of the PS5 Pro Promise Amazing Power

Online talk about a fancier PlayStation 5 has been going on for a while. Sony just said they’d launch a smaller PS5 instead of the current one. So the fancier one might still be far off. But many folks have heard enough rumors to think it’s real.

Now, a new rumor is spreading. It tells us stuff about the possible specs of the PlayStation 5 Pro (not sure if that’s the final name). We’ve heard this kind of thing before. But this time, the specs might not be as amazing as some hoped.

Specifically, it looks like the PlayStation 5 Pro won’t have a major CPU improvement. It will still use the same eight-core Zen 2 processor. But with slightly faster clock speeds, around 4GHz. Whereas the regular PS5 goes up to 3.5GHz.

Hardware Upgrades

Having a 4GHz CPU could help, especially with games made just for the PlayStation. As they’re built to work really well with its hardware. The big performance boost, though, might come from the PS5 Pro’s graphics. It’s said to use AMD’s RDNA 3 design, not the RDNA 2 like the regular PS5.

The new GPU might have 60 Compute Units (CUs), which is more than the 36 CUs in the regular one, and it could run at speeds between 2.5GHz to 2.8GHz (while the base PS5 GPU is set at 2.23GHz).

The PS5 Pro’s memory might be 16GB of GDDR6, the same as the base PS5, but it could be faster at 18000 MT/s instead of 14000 MT/s. Lastly, the PS5 Pro might make the Tempest Engine, which handles 3D Audio, work twice as well.

We can’t be sure if any of these specs are true, and we’ll likely only know when Sony tells us about the PlayStation 5 Pro. But right now, Sony’s more focused on the new PlayStation 5 that’s coming out next month, so it might be a while before the important PS5 upgrade arrives.
