Resident Evil 9 Could Go Open World – Rumor

A recent tweet from reliable leaker Dusk Golem suggests that Resident Evil 9 might expand on the RE Engine and adopt an open-world approach.

Reports indicate that Resident Evil 9 has been in development for several years. And its speculation pointing to a potential launch in 2025. The latest main installment in the series is Resident Evil Village, which was released in 2021.

Dusk Golem, known as user @AestheticGamer1, also mentioned that Monster Hunter Wild is leveraging the same technology. However, they assure fans that both Resident Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wild will maintain the core essence of their respective franchises.

In October of last year, Dusk Golem shared some hints on Discord about Resident Evil 9, including the suggestion that it will have the biggest budget in the series so far.

The extended development time for RE 9 aligns with the adoption of a new engine for open-world gameplay, which naturally takes longer to implement.

According to Dusk Golem, Dragon’s Dogma 2 expanded the functionality of the RE Engine. However, the game received negative reviews primarily due to in-game monetization and performance issues upon its launch.

Capcom recently issued an apology addressing these concerns. They clarified which items can be earned in-game and which are available as downloadable content (DLC).

Despite its problematic launch, Dragon’s Dogma 2 provided Capcom with an opportunity to identify and address flaws. And potentially leading to a smoother launch for Resident Evil 9. Meanwhile, fans can immerse themselves in RE 4 Gold Edition. It was released last month and includes the base game along with DLCs.

In December 2023, Capcom also announced its intention to continue remaking previous games in the Resident Evil series.
