PS5 Pro appeared with More Powerful Specs – Launching Soon

Sony is making a new PlayStation called PlayStation 5 Pro. It might have a much stronger graphics chip that is up to three times faster than the current PS5 models.

A YouTuber named Moore’s Law is Dead says they saw a document about the PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity. Now, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming says the leaked details are true, and the console will likely come out around the holiday season in 2024.

The technical document screenshots show that the PlayStation 5 Pro might have 67 teraflops for 16-bit calculations, which is about 33.5 teraflops for single-precision tasks. This could mean a 45 percent boost in rendering performance compared to the current PS5.

The current PS5 has a performance of 10.28 teraflops. So tripling that would be a big improvement just in terms of the graphics chip. Additionally, the PS5 Pro might provide up to three times better performance for ray tracing, according to Henderson’s report, and sometimes even four times better.

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)

The papers, supposedly shared on Sony’s developer website, talk about PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This feature is rumored to use PlayStation’s machine learning to improve picture quality, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR. It could also enhance ray tracing performance on the rumored PS5 Pro and might support up to 8K resolution in the future.

While Moore’s Law is Dead isn’t always reliable for console news, Henderson’s reports indicate that Sony’s own studios started testing PS5 Pro development kits in September, with other companies gaining access in January.

Henderson had previously mentioned a PS5 Pro with a possible release date in November 2024. It seems like Sony is on track to meet this ambitious timeline.

The Breakdown of the leaked document details:

  • The rendering speed of the PS5 Pro is expected to be 45% faster than the current PS5.
  • Ray tracing performance will improve by 2-3 times (and up to 4 times in some cases).
  • The PS5 Pro is estimated to have 33.5 teraflops of computational power.
  • It will feature PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) for upscaling and anti-aliasing.
  • Future versions of the SDK are planned to support resolutions up to 8K.
  • The console will include a custom machine learning architecture and an AI Accelerator capable of 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation or 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating-point operations.
