Starting tomorrow, some PlayStation users will gain early access to a new feature focused on the PS5 DualSense Controller.
Sony announced today that a new PlayStation 5 update is on the way, initially available to select beta participants.
“Many PS5 peripherals, including the DualSense wireless controller, are designed for use with a range of devices beyond the PS5—such as PC, Mac, and mobile,” said Shuzo Kikuchi, Sony’s VP of Product Management, in an official blog post. “We believe cross-platform compatibility enhances a more seamless and flexible gaming experience.”
Launching tomorrow in select countries for invited beta testers. The new feature allows both DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers to be paired with multiple devices simultaneously. This means users will no longer need to re-pair their controllers when switching between devices.
Additionally, Sony revealed plans for a new “Power Saver” mode, aimed at reducing energy consumption in PS5 games. While this feature isn’t launching just yet, it will be available in a future update and is part of Sony’s efforts to make gaming more eco-friendly.
Beta invites will be sent out tomorrow to eligible participants. For everyone else, the update will roll out later this year.
Here’s what Sony shared about the new controller pairing functionality:
“With this update, you can now register up to four devices at once and easily switch between them using your controller.
For instance, take the controller you normally use with your PS5, and switch seamlessly to a PC for gaming, or connect it to your smartphone to play via Remote Play.
This added flexibility makes it easier than ever to enjoy your games across different platforms.”
