Marvel’s Wolverine: Everything We Know So Far

Wolverine from Marvel is getting a lot of attention, but it’s not good news. A group called Rhysida hacked into Insomniac’s files and put thousands of them online. Wolverine is one of the things that got leaked.

We had some information about Insomniac’s Wolverine game for the PS5, but because of the hack, they have to start over. While they work on that, if you’re looking forward to Marvel’s Wolverine, here’s what we know until now.

Release date

Marvel’s Wolverine, despite being teased in 2021, doesn’t have a confirmed release date. There’s no official information about it yet, but leaked documents suggested a 2026 launch, though that may not be accurate anymore.

Many of us expected a release window by now, especially after Spider-Man 2 came out. However, with the recent hack, it’s pretty certain that Marvel’s Wolverine is facing internal delays. Insomniac needs time to recover since everything, including the story, gameplay, and planned sequels, got leaked. We don’t know when they will release it, and honestly, it might be a few years before we hear anything new.

Platforms

At launch, Marvel’s Wolverine will be exclusive to the PS5. A PC version might come out a year or two later, following the trend of other PS5 exclusives like Horizon: Forbidden West and Returnal.

Given the extensive damage from the leak, it’s no surprise that everything, from the entire story to future spin-offs like a potential X-Men game, has been exposed.

It’s pretty certain that Insomniac had to redo most, if not all, of Marvel’s Wolverine due to the recent events. If they initially planned for a late 2026 release, it’s likely delayed by at least two years now.

Dark Origins, Spider-Man Link

From the leaks, Marvel’s Wolverine seems to be an action-adventure game, similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 but darker and more mature in tone. Expect a good amount of bloodshed and gore, fitting for Wolverine, one of the bloodiest anti-heroes.

The leaks also suggested that Insomniac, at least before the recent events, intended to make their PS5 Wolverine game an origin story about Logan. It would be set before the X-Men existed, with its ending setting up their formation in a spin-off or sequel.

Marvel’s Wolverine is set in the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man, officially confirmed by Insomniac. While there’s no confirmation of a Spider-Man cameo in the upcoming Wolverine game, the odds are high. A future crossover between the two characters might happen, possibly in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

Don’t expect Marvel’s Wolverine to be available on day one on PS Plus. PlayStation hasn’t shown interest in bringing their first-party blockbusters to the service. On the contrary, Xbox often does day-one releases on Game Pass. However, since Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive, it won’t be on Xbox Game Pass. For PC, it’s a possibility someday, but don’t rely on it.
