PlayStation showed up at The Game Awards 2023 and said they’re giving away free God of War Ragnarok DLC, which you can get next week.
The new DLC is called God of War Ragnarok Valhalla and will be available on Tuesday, December 12. God of War Ragnarok was a big deal at The Game Awards 2022, and the game won several awards. It’s an action-adventure game made by Sony Santa Monica.
Free God of War DLC
God of War Ragnarok didn’t win the big Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2022. But it did win six other awards. Before The Game Awards 2023, fans knew that God of War Ragnarok would be represented because Christopher Judge. Who plays Kratos, was confirmed as a presenter. However, fans didn’t expect any announcements for the game during the event.
So, it surprised many viewers of The Game Awards 2023 when they saw the trailer for GoW Ragnarok Valhalla, a new DLC that will be completely free and will come out on Tuesday, December 12 for both PS4 and PS5.
The Valhalla DLC will have elements like roguelike gameplay and is promised to bring an “emotional, unexpected, and fun new twist” to GoW Ragnarok. As stated by Game Awards host Geoff Keighley. The short trailer for the DLC featured Kratos and Mimir fighting some unique monsters. Including a cyclops, which is a callback to the earlier God of War games based on Greek mythology.
Fans Speculate on Series’ Future
PlayStation’s choice to release GoW Ragnarok Valhalla for free might surprise many. Despite the massive success of GoW Ragnarok in sales, it seems fans of the franchise would have been willing to purchase premium DLC. Nonetheless, the free DLC provides a good reason for GoW fans to return to Ragnarok next week. And it’ll be interesting to see what new developments the DLC brings to the story.
There have been rumors about a smaller-scale GoW game to fill the gap between Ragnarok and the next full-sized entry in the series. It’s unclear if this free GoW Ragnarok DLC is that rumored project or something entirely different. If the other GoW project exists, fans may be curious about when it will be announced. For now, fans can anticipate the release of God of War Ragnarok Valhalla on December 12.
