Rockstar released the GTA 6 reveal trailer one day earlier than planned. The trailer gives the first glimpse of the game, seemingly in response to the complete video leaking online.
The much-awaited game confirms that GTA 6 will have a female main character. As previous leaks and rumors indicated. The game also reveals that it aims for a 2025 release.
The GTA 6 reveal trailer, set for December 5 at 9 am ET, faced an unexpected leak around 16 hours before its scheduled release. A low-quality version of the full trailer surfaced on Twitter. Shared by a now-suspended account named GTA6TrailerLeak.
In response, Rockstar decided to release the complete trailer on YouTube a day earlier. The highly anticipated first look at GTA 6 features scenes set to the 1989 song “Love is a Long Road” from Tom Petty’s album Full Moon Fever. The video starts with a view of a swamp bridge at sunset and transitions to two quick glimpses of what seems to be the Vice City Penitentiary.
The leaked trailer’s fourth shot shows a correctional officer asking a Latina woman in an orange prison jumpsuit, “Lucia, do you know why you are here?” She responds, “Bad luck, I guess.”
The trailer continues with a “Rockstar Games Presents” title card displayed over a shot of what looks like Vice City Beach. The location is confirmed midway through the trailer when a partial view of a large Vice City sign is shown.
The rest of the video focuses on introducing different aspects of the city. Including marshes, beaches, a nightclub, and a boat cruising on green water. Social media posts and other elements are also highlighted. The Viceport Boatyard and the GTA 6 version of Ocean Drive, bordering Vice City Beach, are featured.
Release Window
The trailer reveals that GTA 6 will have two playable characters, seemingly a couple. Unlike Lucia, the male protagonist’s name is not spoken in the 91-second video. But previous leaks referred to him as Jason. Regardless of his identity, it seems GTA 6 will be the first game in the series with a female protagonist.
The trailer concludes by unveiling the official logo of GTA 6. Which features an outrun-style Roman numeral for six. It is also revealed that the game is aiming for a 2025 release. According to Take-Two’s recent financial reports, the GTA 5 sequel is expected to be released by the end of the company’s fiscal year 2025. Indicating a potential launch in Q1 2025.
However, a GTA Online teaser, which accurately predicted the planned premiere date of the GTA 6 trailer months in advance, hints at a possible release on April 1, 2025. Nonetheless, this theory is met with some skepticism, particularly because the mentioned date coincides with April Fools’ Day.
