Adobe Illustrator’s AI Evolution & New Features

Adobe’s Illustrator, a graphics tool, is entering the generative AI era with the introduction of the Firefly Vector Model at Adobe’s MAX conference.

AI-Powered Vector Graphics

Adobe calls this new model the “world’s first AI model that focuses on making vector graphics.” Like Firefly. Which is used for creating images and photos. Firefly for Illustrator can make complete vector graphics from the beginning. The vector model, like other Firefly models, learned from data in Adobe Stock.

In its beta version, Illustrator now allows you to create entire scenes using text prompts. What’s cool about this is that these scenes can include many objects. It’s not just a random set of vectors that form the overall picture. Illustrator will automatically create these different objects. And you can control them individually, just like any other group or layer in Illustrator.

New Feature

Adobe’s VP for generative AI and Sensei, Alexandru Costin, revealed that the company harnessed tens of millions of vector images from Adobe Stock to train Firefly for this new capability. Costin described the process as a challenging journey.

As there had been less progress in using generative AI for creating vector drawings compared to other image types. The team’s focus was on developing a model that could create these images with the fewest points required.

Another upcoming feature in Illustrator is called Mockup. Enabling users to apply any vector art to a 3D scene. For instance, you can design a label for a drink can or visualize a new logo on a t-shirt.

Costin highlighted that Mockup is particularly exciting for freelancers to present their artwork in context to help clients understand what they’re getting.

Additionally, there’s Retype, which can transform static text in images into editable text and even identify matching fonts. Furthermore, Illustrator is now accessible on the web.
